Christianity - The end

My flirtation with Christianity has come to and end. It's a shame really. I met some incredibly friendly and interesting people, learnt so much more about a faith so different to the one I was raised in, and the supper got better and better as the weeks progressed. Sigh.

If our subject wasn't religion, I think I'd feel more tempted to stay on. Am I a Christian? I doubt it. I am left unable to completely believe that much of what The Bible teaches is anything more than an interpretation that has gained weight over time. Further, accepting the Christian faith would mean that I would have to accept that things were, at the moment, dire. Believing in the power of death rather than life itself is something I would struggle to do.

Having said this, there are a number of things the Christian faith has taught me, about responsibility, faith, loyalty and forgiveness.

I think I'd quite like to learn about Buddhism now. Onwards and upwards I guess.

Having been raised Catholic, I for one did not have a comforting experience with Christianity. It's one of those things that sounds good in it's concept but in reality it's a whole different animal. Now Buddhism sits much better with me. Just look at the imagery. A man dying on the cross or a chubby jovial fat guy. cheers

How far apart Christianity and Catholicism are in terms of their beliefs I have no idea. As I mentioned previously, I felt a learnt a great deal about a religion so different to the one i was raised in.

I wonder, if I'd been raised as Atheist, whether Christianity may have appealed some more.

In terms of the imagery, I'm completely with you on this one. Man dying on cross coupled with a need to admit that our life is without much meaning is offputting to say the least.

And a question... does the immaculate conception referred to in Catholicism refer to Jesus or Mary? Was Mary born of a virgin birth?

Are you currently a practising Catholic?
